Soyulla Student Benefits
When you sign up for lessons with Soyulla Artists, you don't just develop artistic skills through great teachers, you also join a very special family. As part of Soyulla Artists, you gain access to the following services:
Master Classes: The students of Soyulla Artists have the opportunity to work with established performers through Soyulla Master Classes. Students will perform for each other and the Master Class instructor to receive pointers and comments on style, technique, performance, and practice methods. Students will learn both by direct instruction and by observation of the Artist's critiques of the other students involved.
Recitals: All students are invited to participate in the annual Soyulla Student Recital. These recitals are not only a opportunity to gain confidence from performance experience, but are a chance for students to meet some of their peers. The recitals always make for a great day of camaraderie as students cheer each other on through their performances. Recitals are held at a variety of locations to give students ample exposure to different performance spaces.
Piano Tuning
Soyulla now offers piano tuning! Changes in temperature and humidity, especially at the start of each new season, can cause pianos to go out of tune, resulting in a less harmonious sound. A tuned piano is essential for the progress of piano students, in training their ear, and of course making playing the instrument even more enjoyable, leading to continued motivation and study.
Our piano technician has over 11 years of experience in piano tuning and repair in New York and in the Midwest, offering his excellent ear and knowledge as a highly skilled musician to tune pianos in homes, schools, churches, and other venues. He has worked on an extensive range of instruments from spinets and uprights to grands and baby grands, and on brands including Steinway, Yamaha, Boston, Young Chang, Baldwin, and others.
A typical tuning only takes about an hour, and is a great investment in every pianist's enjoyment of their craft, from a beginner's developing ear to a professional's discerning one. Contact us to inquire about our rates and to schedule a tuning appointment.
Alexander Technique
Have you ever heard of the Alexander Technique? Originally developed by a Shakespearean actor to remedy his chronic vocal problems, the Alexander Technique is a method of identifying and correcting inefficient body alignment. For several decades, musicians have found that changing their posture, breathing, and motion habits through study of the Alexander Technique can improve technical performance and lessen discomfort in the use of their instrument. Non-musicians benefit too from this increased ergonomic awareness in everyday activities such as walking, sitting, and lifting items.
Much like music lessons, an Alexander Technique instructor works individually with a student to develop a completely personalized plan for improvement. Soyulla has a certified Alexander Technique specialist on staff, and 30-minute sessions are available. Contact us for rates and details or to book an appointment, and start leading a more aligned life!
Soyulla Artists Scholarship Fund
Soyulla Artists carries a deep burden for those who do not have opportunities to experience the beautiful impact of the arts. Unfortunately, a number of schools in this city do not have music programs, and many children do not have the means to take private lessons. For this reason, the Soyulla Artists Scholarship Fund was founded to provide scholarships from 10%-100% of lesson fees for talented individuals who would not otherwise be able to take advantage of such an opportunity.
We do not want anyone to feel they cannot afford to learn. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, or if you would like to make a donation to our Scholarship Fund, please contact us.
