Gabrielle H.
Voice, Piano
Gabrielle is a vocalist, pianist and composer residing in Brooklyn, New York. A graduate of Bard College (Voice and Music Composition), Gabrielle has toured all over Europe and the U.S. both as a featured vocalist and with her innovative music compositions. As a featured vocalist, she has performed and toured as part of today’s most exciting composers’ and producers’ works including Missy Mizzoli, Valgeir Sigurðsson, Zeena Parkins, Elliott Sharp, Da Capo Chamber Players, Contemporaneous, Allie Avital Tsypin at The Kitchen, and Marina Rosenfeld’s Teenage Lontano in the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
As a composer, she has premiered her compositions at Roulette, The Stone, Cabinet Magazine’s Exhibition Space, Issue Project Room and HERE Arts Center. Recipient of the 2011 Artist Residency at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center in partnership with New York Theater Workshop, Herbst received commissions from Roulette and the Jerome Foundation, the new music ensemble Contemporaneous, Experiments in Opera at Issue Project Room, Duo Noire, and the Nouveau Classical Project. Her other prestigious residencies include Con Edison Composer-in-Residence through Exploring the Metropolis, Inc., 2013 Composer in Residence at Atlantic Center for the Arts. and the Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn. She has studied composition with Joan Tower, Martin Bresnick, Marina Rosenfeld and Zeena Parkins, voice with Ilka LoMonaco and clarinet with David Krakauer. Gabrielle released her debut album under the name GABI with Software Records/Mexican in summer 2017.
Gabrielle is a passionate educator who has taught piano, voice, and composition lessons to children ranging from ages 3 years to high school, as well as adults, for over 7 years. Musically versatile, Gabrielle highly enjoys teaching different musical genres focusing on joy of learning, artistry and finding your own creative voice.
