Kaila P.

Teaches in English

Kaila is a professional cellist and dedicated music educator based in Manhattan, with nearly a decade of teaching experience. She has extensive experience performing Classical and Pop music.

Originally from West Hartford, Connecticut, Kaila began playing cello at the age of four. Prior to college, she trained with Mehai Tetel at the University of Hartford. Kaila earned a dual degree in Music Performance and Computer Science from Bard Conservatory and College, where she studied cello under Peter Wiley. Kaila served as principal cellist for Bard Conservatory Orchestra, with honors including the Connecticut Youth Symphony Concerto Competition winner and a prize at the Hartford Musical Club Competition.

An avid chamber musician, Kaila has performed with esteemed artists such as Luis Garcia-Renart, Peter Serkin, Raman Ramakrishnan, James Bagwell and Dawn Upshaw. Her performances have taken her to prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and David Geffen Hall in New York, as well as internationally to Cuba, China and Italy.

Before moving to New York City, Kaila served as a substitute cellist for the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and actively participated in a Broadway concert series with pianist Tim Stella, performing alongside renowned Broadway artists such as Hugh Panera, John Kudia, Kathy Voytko, and Eryn LeCroy.

Having worked with students of various ages and skill levels, Kaila centers her teaching philosophy around creating a nurturing and dynamic environment where each student can thrive. Kaila believes in fostering an atmosphere where students feel free to explore their musical voices and make mistakes, all while remaining energized and motivated. Kaila ensures that students not only grow as musicians but also connect their musical pursuits with their broader life goals.
