Elliott Carter: Elegy

Thea M.

Thea received her BFA from the California Institute of the Arts, where she studied with Erika Duke-Kirkpatrick. She completed her master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Fred Sherry.

Thea is a member of Berrow Duo, along with flutist Leia Slosberg. She also regularly performs with groups such as The Nouveau Classical Project, Uptown Philharmonic, the New Century Players, Vinny Golia’s Large Ensemble, and Curiosity Cabinet. She has appeared at venues throughout LA and New York that include the Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Redcat, Roulette, and National Sawdust.

As a musician who began her training in a public school music program, Thea has a passion for teaching privately as well as working with programs that give back to the community. She has taught for organizations such as the Harmony Project, the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra, the Asia America Youth Symphony, and the Community Arts Partnership. She currently teaches with Youth Orchestra St. Luke’s, and is a cello mentor with Hunter College Symphony.

Thea works to keep her students engaged and excited about the cello. She believes that a solid technical foundation along with fun collaboration is the key to success, and sees cello lessons as a tool not only for becoming a musician, but for learning the rewards that come from dedication to a craft. Thea is endlessly positive and energetic, bringing fun and light-heartedness to the practice of learning an instrument.
