Julia S.

Julia (she/her) is a New York City-based teaching artist, composer/lyricist and performer. Her theatrical performance experience spans from musical theatre, to devised work, and Shakespeare. Julia is a jazz vocalist and sings for the Young New Yorkers’ Chorus. She has also worked as a music director and vocal arranger. Julia is a graduate of Colgate University where she received her B.A. in Theatre and Psychology. She has also studied at the Atlantic Acting School, the London Dramatic Academy and is a member of Off The Lane and Maestra.

 

Julia is the lyricist, composer and librettist of the TYA musical, Shelly Shazam, currently in development. Shelly Shazam was selected as a finalist for the Parlando School of Music’s New Musical Project and songs from the musical have also been performed at The Green Room 42 as part of the Women and the Wings concert series and will be performed with the Musical Theatre Conservatory at the Mill Mountain Theatre. Her songs have been featured on NAMT's LAUNCH: The Next Gen of Musical Theatre playlist. Julia is also writing and developing the new contemporary pop musical IN A MINUTE and songs from the show were recently featured at the Triad Theater’s New Composer Cabaret.

 

As a singer-songwriter, Julia performs her original music at venues across New York City, most recently at Bowery Electric, The Green Room 42, The Delancey, McCarren Parkhouse, DROM NYC with MajorStage and Berlin Under A and Kobrick Coffee with Breaking Sound NYC.

 

Julia co-created and is the vocalist and songwriter for the electronic pop duo Not the Ending with producer Without the San. Their songs have been recognized by renowned music supervisors and featured in The Luna Collective. You can find Julia's music on Spotify and other streaming services.

Julia believes that studying and learning music allows us to connect more deeply to ourselves, others and the world around us. She is passionate about working with students of all ages and abilities to spark joy, self-expression and confidence. Her goal is for her students to foster a love of music and creativity and to carry the skills and joy that discovering their artistry brings them into all aspects of their life. Julia is interested in and has studied the intersection of mindfulness, music and performance, which influences her teaching and creative work.
