Kate is a teaching artist whose goal is to bring beauty and truth into the world in the small ways she can. She sings, acts, and plays the piano, seeking to grow each day, while helping her students realize their potential and build skills. Although she didn't always know that music would become the focus of her life’s work, she has been making music as long as she can remember. Her first grade school teacher gave her the nickname, "hummingbird," because she was incessantly (and inadvertently) humming and singing in class. Neither of her parents are musicians, and so it was a surprise to them when at age eight she asked for a piano. She started taking lessons then, performed in my first musical shortly after, and was hooked!

Kate went on to study music at The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Vocal Arts (along with a degree in Spanish) and then furthered her education at New York University, earning an Advanced Certificate of Vocal Pedagogy and a Master of Music in Classical Voice. In addition to her teaching, Kate enjoys performing in a wide range of contexts and styles. Her most unique credit to date is performing with Sam Smith as a part of their acapella backup choir on Saturday Night Live.

A selection of her recent musical theater credits are the following: Beautiful, the Carole King Musical (Carole u/s and Marilyn Wald), Assassins (housewife), Kinky Boots (Pat), and Into the Woods (Cinderella). She regularly sings and plays piano at Birdland on Monday nights for Jim Caruso’s Cast Party and she has lent her voice this year’s Coca Cola’s holiday advertisement. She also can be heard as a soloist and chorister at many churches here in the city, including Trinity Wall St. and Fifth Avenue Presbyterian, and she also performs in acapella quartets for many events, mostly around the holidays. In her free time, she also loves to sing and play folk music, and she has recently started to learn to play the ukulele! She is so very grateful for any opportunity to make music with others in performance or teaching contexts.
