Nikolay B.

Accordion

Nikolay began his accordion studies at the age of six and quickly proved to be one of the most talented accordionists amongst young musicians, throughout the course of his education. Nikolay has won many prestigious worldwide competitions, including taking first place in Trophée Mondial (Kaunas, Lithuania, 2014) and Accordion Star International (USA, 2022), where he was named a world accordion champion. 

 

While touring both as a soloist and with his ensemble, Nikolay has participated in many international festivals such as: Limbažu accordion festival in Latvia, the festival of association of Chinese and Russian universities of arts 2016 in Jinan, China, “Jazz accordion festival in Castelfidardo” (Italy) 2017. In 2019, he was also invited to play in the international exhibition, “The New York Times Travel Show” which took place in New York City.

 

Nikolay received his Bachelor's Degree from St. Petersburg Conservatory and his Master’s Degree in Accordion Performance in the newly established, Classical Accordion Studies Program at the University of Victoria in Canada. 

 

Nikolay has played with world-famous Jazz musicians, such as: 24-time Grammy winner Chick Corea, David Binney, Emmy-nominated trumpeter Benny Benack III, Alexander Claffy, Simone Zanchini, Sean Mason, and many others. Furthermore, Nikolay has been an invited jury member of the prestigious World Accordion competitions in“PIF Castelfidardo” (Italy, 2019), “Trophée Mondial” (virtual online, 2020), “Accordion Star International” (USA, 2021), and “Italia Award” (Italy, 2021). Nikolay recently had his debut at the world famous Carnegie Hall in New York.  

 

Nikolay's teaching philosophy is the belief that everyone can learn; it just takes the right approach. He believes in the educational process and its profound ability to transcend. Nikolay loves to demonstrate and teach his students how best to hear and distinguish specific subtleties when listening to music.
